Garden Shed Build

Like most people who buy a home, you quickly fill it up with stuff. And of course the solution is to build things to put more stuff into, like a shed. This shed was made to free up the other half of the garage, so that we could put more stuff (another car) into the garage. The goal was to have something that looked nice but was as low-cost as possible, without being a super cheapo prebuilt.

Believe it or not, we've managed to stuff not only our garden tools, lawn mower, and power washer in there, but also our three chain saws, four bicycles, a Shop Vac, and scrap wood.

Build recap

  • 8x10 feet in size, it's surprising how much stuff you can cram in that space.
  • The siding is cedar fence boards, which are relatively cheap but still cedar and so they'll last a while.
  • The window was from Second Use, which sells reclaimed building material. It's an amazing place to browse.
  • All in all, this was a success and we've been parking car #2 in the garage ever since.

Leveled the ground a bit, put pier blocks down, and made the base.

Plywood floor down and framing walls. It's 8x10 in size.

More framing.

Framing the rafters. Rafters are not my specialty...

Starting to add cedar siding. It goes slower than you'd think.

Maybe someday that tree will crush it?

Window is in, and more siding.

View from the bedroom. It lives in the corner of the backyard.

It's still missing something...a roof!

All done! Now time to fill it with stuff.
